xx santa barbara mini op (memorial day weekend)
« Thread started on: Apr 12th, 2006, 8:44pm »

OP: Shifting Sands

WHEN: Probably memorial day weekend (Unless lots of LC people want it moved so that they could attend this mini op AND LCV.

Prelude:

It is late 2006. A series of diplomatic attempts by the United States and the world have failed to convince the Iranian government to abandon its nuclear program. The United States military has just finalized its plan for a conventional invasion of the country with the aim of disabling Iran’s nuclear facilities and toppling its radical president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Tensions run high as both sides make final preparations for the coming conflict…

In the interests of making the teams more unique in tactics, as well as forming more "realistic" forces, the US team is smaller, with more specialist positions than the larger, but less-well-equipped Iranian team.

Uniform Requirements

US Forces: “Green” BDUs (US woodland, DPM, etc) or Multicam

Iranian Forces: “Tan” Uniforms recommended (Tri/6 Color desert, Desert MARPAT/DPM, etc). Iranian forces may wear any camouflage that is not similar in coloration to US uniforms. Please exercise good judgment in this matter.

NOTE: Both forces' camo MUST be patterened. No OD or khaki.

Role Requirements

Rifleman: The rifleman is your general soldier. He may carry any combination of non-bolt action weapons. Riflemen may not make use of drum or box-type magazines. Special weapons (such as grenade launchers) are allowed. Riflemen are limited to the amount of ammunition they can carry in their magazines. Grenades are permitted, provided they are actually replica grenades, not rocks, oranges, or any other item that could be picked up off the field. Since replica grenades are costly, tennis balls, painted black or OD and equipped with a neon streamer for recovery and identification on the field, are permitted.

Support*: The support role is that of squad machine-gunner. Support players are the only players who may use drum or box-type magazines. Support players may also carry extra ammunition on their person with which to re-supply their teammates in the field.

Medic*: Medics are in charge of keeping their teammates alive in the field. Weapon rules for medics are the same as those for riflemen.
Medics may treat soldiers wounded in combat. Medics must carry a deck of cards. When a medic reaches a fallen comrade (either the medic runs to the down man, or the down man is pulled by his teammates to the medic within two minutes of being hit), the “injured” player will draw a card from the medic’s shuffled deck…

***** A red suite means an instant-revive—the player is back in the fight.

***** A “clubs” card means the player is seriously wounded—the medic must remain over the body of the injured player for two minutes without either of them being shot. Once two minutes are up, the injured player is considered back in the fight. The medic can also drag the wounded man to safety with him and treat him there, but it has to be a for-real drag, not holding the wounded guy's hand as he jumps up and runs with the medic...

***** A “spades” card means the injured player is mortally wounded. Sorry, you are out for the remainder of the scenario. Wait where you are, playing dead, until the fighting moves out of your immediate area. Then proceed to the safe zone / staging area. Do not divulge any information to anyone still in the game while you are dead. Dead men tell no tales. Once at the staging area, you are free to discuss the game.

NOTE: When I say a medic or teammates can drag a wounded man, I MEAN drag. No holding the wounded guy's hand as he hops up and runs with you... lets keep it realistic.

Demolitions*: The demolitions role can be mission critical. Demolitions players are tasked with the transportation and operation of explosives and other highly specialized weapons. Demolitions weapon rules are the same as those for riflemen. In addition to their normal weapons, however, demo players may carry and deploy satchel charges (provided to players when missions require them), claymores, mines, and rocket launchers.

USFOR must have at least one demolitions player! The bare-minimum required props will be provided so scenarios can function.

Scout/Sniper*: Scout/snipers are dedicated marksmen. Scouts may be equipped with bolt action rifles only as primary weapons. Because of the high-power of these sniper weapons, they are allowed a sidearm (pistol or AEP only, for obvious reasons). Scout/snipers are encouraged to carry binoculars, and any other unique tools they feel will enhance their ability to perform their scouting duties. Proper camouflage is recommended.

(* Indicates a “Special” role.)

“Special” Roles

Special roles are designed to provide a more interesting game-play experience for our players. Players should volunteer only for roles they can come equipped to play. All “changes” to team load-outs and roles must be made before the OP—your teams MUST COME ORGANIZED ON THE DAY-OF. NO LAST MINUTE ROLE CHANGES. Discuss these matters and assignments on the boards beforehand, and make sure your team’s critical special players will make the game.

When you go to sign up for the op, request a special role by including a request in your op “RSVP” post. Say, “Hi! I’m Billy! I’m coming to the OP! I have medic gear, and would like to play a medic on _______ squad please!”

So... anyone up for this? Leave comments on gameplay / organizational improvements if you like...

We will need to get cracking and make some props for this event. BB traps, "satchel charges," some fake military equipment (doesn't really matter what this is, as long as its a bit bulky and cumbersome...)

The actual team objectives will be released to the teams on the day of the op
